What is 5G?
5G is stands for fifth generation of wireless network, yet to be released. 5G wireless network said to be capable in providing super-fast data to users, which with low latency (low delay time in network connection) and high precision. Nowadays, most of us use 3G or 4G/LTE networks.
Do you know that, people only start using cell phone which began at 1G in early 1980s? We call it “brick phone” mainly because of it is very big and heavy. 1G only provide the basic voice service. The speed is only 2.4 kilobits per seconds (kbps).
2G wireless network introduce the function of text messaging in forms of SMS (Short Message Service) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service). The speed of 2G is 64 kbps.
3G wireless network ushered in fast speed of data transmission, which enable the video calling and use of mobile internet. Speed of 3G s 2,000 kbps.
4G wireless network, the current standard, came along with LTE (Long Term Evolution) as the 4G standard were far a bit reaching. Currently, 4G LTE is the fastest wireless network, which able to provide smooth streaming of live video, uninterrupted multiplayer online games experience and improved speed of uploading and downloading videos. Speed of 4G is 100,000 kbps.
Hubert Da Costa, Vice President of EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) at CradlePoint said that, “5G Wi-Fi connections are set to be about three times faster than 4G, starting with 450Mbps in single-stream, 900 Mbps (dual-stream) and 1.3G bps (three-stream). So, whilst we are already starting to see a huge growth in IoT (Internet of Things) and smart devices, 5G’s speed and capacity will enable an even more rapid arrival of this connected future.”
Is A New Phone Needed for 5G?
Just like a 2G phone unable to connect to 3G or 4G wireless network, hence 3G or 4G/LTE phone will not able to connect to 5G network. Therefore, a new phone is needed for 5G wireless network.
When Will 5G Be Available?
Initial estimation for availability of 5G wireless network is about in Year 2020.
