Only 28% Actually Do.<\/span><\/b><\/h1>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almost every business owner believes the same thing: \u201cIf something goes wrong, we have backups. We will be fine.\u201d A major new global study just put that belief to the test, and the results are sobering.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confidence in recovery is nearly universal. Actual recovery is not. The gap between the two is where businesses quietly fail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span>The Confidence Gap, Measured in Hard Numbers<\/span><\/b><b><span><\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In April 2026, Veeam, the world&#8217;s market leader in data resilience and protector of data for 82% of the Fortune 500, released its Data Trust and Resilience Report 2026. It surveyed more than 900 senior IT, security and risk leaders worldwide. The headline finding is one every business should sit with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>90% of organisations<\/strong> are confident they can recover from a cyber incident.<\/li>\n<li>Yet among those actually hit by ransomware, <strong>only 28% fully recovered<\/strong> all their affected data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>44% recovered less than 75%<\/strong> of their data. On average, victims got back just 72%.<\/li>\n<li>Among organisations that suffered a cyber incident, <strong>42% reported customer disruption<\/strong> and <strong>41% reported financial or revenue loss<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Companies that invested in resilience fundamentals recovered far better: full recovery reached <strong>40% versus just 16%<\/strong> for those that did not.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><\/strong><b><i><span>Confidence in recovery and proof of recovery are fundamentally different capabilities.<\/span><\/i><\/b><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<div><span>Anand Eswaran, CEO, Veeam<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><b><span>Having Backups Is Not the Same as Being Able to Recover<\/span><\/b><b><span><\/span><\/b><br \/><span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is the trap. Then an attack hits, and the team discovers the painful gaps only under pressure: the backup itself was encrypted because it sat on the same network, a critical cloud application was never included in the backup scope, or a restore that should take hours takes days because nobody had ever actually tested it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a Malaysian business, recovering only 72% of your data is not a 72% success. The missing 28% could be your customer database, your unpaid invoices, your production records, or your compliance documents.
